Omar Siddiqi

Hello!  I am a doctoral student currently at Indiana University.  My research interests center around histories of Colonial North America and the Early American / Early National periods.  My most recent research project connected captivity narratives and the condition of confinement to early American articulations of race, religion, sexuality, and the dangers of  miscegenation.  I am also particularly interested in the manner in which Islam figured in various trans-Atlantic, Western discourses. Within this niche, I am beginning to consider how ideas about  Islam influenced British North Americans and their early American descendants' thinking about their own religious practices and beliefs.
