Stavros Katsios
Stavros KATSIOS is Professor of International Economic Relations and International Economic Crime at the Ionian University, Corfu, Greece and Director of the Laboratory for Geocultural Analyses (the Geolab Institute). He is a lawyer, member of the Thessaloniki Bar since 1990 and of the German Bar Association since 1996, practicing in the fields of economic crime, company law and real estate. His research is focused on International Economic Law and Economic Crime (e.g. corruption, money laundering). He has studied law at the “Albertus Magnus” University, Cologne, Germany, at Georgetown University, Washington D.C., USA (scholarship for attending courses in International Law and Policy) and at the Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece. He holds a university degree in Law from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (1987), a postgraduate Diploma in European Law from the “Europa-Institute” of Saarland University, Germany (1991) and a Ph.D. degree in Commercial and International Economic Law from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1997). He is appointed by a decision of Minister of Finance as the head of the WGII of the Greek National Risk Assessment Expert (NRA) Committee on Money Laundering and Corruption (August 2017). He is a senior expert for the Greek National Risk Assessment (NRA) Expert Committee on Money Laundering and Corruption Vulnerability on contract by the World Bank (December 2016). He has served (from 2011 to 2015) as elected Vice Rector for Economic Management and Development of the Ionian University, as Chairman of the Ionian University Library's Supervisory Committee, as representative of the Ionian University at the European Migration Network (E.M.N) and as the representative of the Rectors' Conference for the formulation of the Qualifications' Framework of the Greek Educational System. He was appointed as Member of the Working Group “Non Tax Revenues–Money Laundering Proceeds” at the Greek Ministry of Economy for drafting the Greek Tax Law (2004). He was an associate member of the Program for Reforming the Law studies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1998-1999).He is a frequent invited speaker at the International Symposium of Economic Crime held annually in September at Jesus College, Cambridge University, UK (since 2009). He lectured on Economic Crimes/Money Laundering, Police Academy, School of National Security (1998-2005). Since 2002 he teaches various law and economics courses at the Ionian University (D.F.L.T.I.). He lectures on Anti-Money Laundering policies at the Hellenic Banking Institute of the Hellenic Bank Association in Athens (since 2010). He is (the first Greek) academic member of the USA-based “Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists” (ACAMS) since 2004. He is author of four books and numerous scientific articles in journals and the director of the publications’ series “Globalization and Governance” and “Geolab Library” of Papazisis Publications, Athens, Greece.
