Jorge Higuera
Dr.Jorge Higuera Portilla received his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 2011. Also, he received the B.Sc and M.Sc in Electronic Engineering from the Industrial University of Santander, Bucaramanga, Colombia in 2002 and 2006, respectively.
From 2007 to 2010 he was a research assistant in the Instrumentation, Sensors and Interfaces Group in the Castelldefels School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering. From 2010 to 2011 he worked in the WiComTec Group, which belongs to the Signal Theory and Communication Department at the UPC.
Since 2007, he has worked as a researcher in different projects with the main aim at designing autonomous and smart sensors to be deployed in inter-operable wireless sensor networks for environment monitoring applications and on-board high speed trains.
His research interests are in the field of wireless communications, instrumentation and measurement, in particular, wireless sensor networks based on smart-sensors systems to control and monitor smart infrastructures. He is author and co-author of several publications on international scientific journals and has served as a reviewer for journals such as the IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement and IEEE Sensors Journal.
Since January 2012, he is working at IREC as a researcher in the Lighting Group in novel control systems and methodologies for energy efficient smart buildings
