A simple solvent-free process, which consists of hot pressing and crosslinking yields mechanically robust, non-flammable, non-tacky truly solid films, remarkably acting as safe, mechanically robust separating electrolytes in Li-based batteries. In order to enhance ion transport properties at ambient temperature, super Li+ ion conducting ceramics can be added in specific amount into the poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based polymer formulation to obtain solid composite polymer electrolytes (CPEs). Lab-scale lithium metal cells assembled with the CPEs demonstrated remarkable performance in terms of specific capacity and stability upon prolonged cycling in the range 10 - 60 °C.
