In the 1900's, Watts introduced its revolutionary combination temperature and pressure relief valve for hot water supply tanks to prevent dangerous explosions stemming from runaway temperature and pressure buildup. These valves continue to be an integral part of today's modern water heating systems. In the 1970's, Watts was the prime mover for the use of backflow preventers to stop the reverse flow of contaminated water from entering the potable water supply.
