Unfortunately, less than 50 percent of M&A's achieve their goals, with IS integration being a major problem. Here, the authors offer a framework to help managers prepare for, analyze, and mitigate risks during post-merger IS integration. They identify key risks relating to IS integration content, process, and context, and present five strategies for mitigating those risks. Their framework aims to help managers proactively reduce the impact of adverse events. Adopting the framework supported by their templates is straightforward and the time and resources required are minimal. When properly executed, adoption increases the likelihood of successful merger outcomes; the framework is thus a valuable addition to the management tool box and can be applied in collaboration with key stakeholders at the start of--and at several points throughout--a post-merger IS integration.

As a result, more and more firms face the challenges of integrating eg operations, personnel, information systems and R&D once the deal is closed. Information systems (IS) issues are important ...

For knowledge sharing to happen, it is necessary to create an appropriate environment. This environment is not enough to stimulate such sharing; other variables can influence the interaction of individuals. We contend that a variable calling for further attention is positive emotions. Hence, the goal of this study is to identify research that addresses sharing and positive emotions. We describe the systematic approach taken for identifying and analyzing these studies. We find a variety of useful insights in these studies. However, we suggest that there is room for additional research to examine knowledge management and positive emotions in the future. Lastly, the initial results of this project highlight the importance of IS researchers developing a multilingual understanding of phenomena that they study.

However, existing research remains sparse, failing to explain how firms design their IS integration strategy and its relation to successful IS integration. In order to overcome this shortcoming, we adapt six dimensions of strategic IS planning to the post-merger integration situation, namely comprehensiveness, formalization, focus, flow, participation, and consistency in the post-merger IS integration context. We then use two in-depth cases studies to shed light on these constructs. We find evidence that contradicts the typical view presented in the M & A literature, and argue that there are several different approaches to post-merger IS integration planning. In the analysis, we point out specific differences between the cases that eventually lead up to these fundamentally different approaches to IS integration design
