DOCTORAL THESIS
Title: Intra-Organizational Conflict in Multinational Corporations: Headquarter Initiative
This thesis advances the literature on MNC HQ-subsidiary relationships by adding new insights to
the global integration versus local responsiveness discussion. It focuses on HQ initiative rejection by
foreign subsidiaries as conflict triggers.

Partner & Director Greenhalgh Asia Pacific Pty Limited (2004 – 2008).
Based in Queensland Australia, Greenhalgh Pty Limited manufactures heat exchangers for the
commercial refrigeration market. Besides active Board of Director activities, responsibilities included
the setting up of a regional Asia-Pacific office and a production facility in China.
Managing Director Asia-Pacific, Bitzer Kuehlmaschinenbau GmbH (2000 – 2004)
Based in Hong Kong; reported directly to the CEO of the Holding Company in Germany with bottom
line responsibility for all regional activities throughout Asia-Pacific including: manufacturing, sales &
marketing, business development, strategic planning, and finances. Set up the company’s regional
office in Hong Kong; achieved sales growth from US$ 15 Million in 1999 to US$ 28 Million in 2004;
growth in OEM business from 28% of the total regional turnover in 1999 to more than 40% in the year
2004; the expansion into new markets including Japan, India and Pakistan; the launch of a regional
training program for technical-services and sales-support; and the set-up of a manufacturing and local

R&D facility in Indonesia.
General Manager (China): Linde AG (1998 - 2000)
Based in Shanghai and Hong Kong; reported directly to the Vice-President Asia-Pacific.
Responsibilities and results included the set up and management of the national headquarters in
Shanghai and Beijing, including marketing & sales, finance & administration, local assembly, and
after sales services. Developed and established company as the leading marketer of commercial
refrigeration equipment in the Greater-Shanghai- and Beijing-Area within the first 12 month of
operation and increased annual turnover from US$ 2 million to US$ 12 million.
Business Development Manager Asia-Pacific, Linde AG (1997-1998)
Based in Hong Kong and Singapore; directed new business opportunities and assisted in strategic
planning for Asia and Australia. Responsibilities included market research, new market development,
field sales, and project engineering for the company’s subsidiaries in Malaysia, Singapore, Shanghai,
Beijing, and Hong Kong.

Based at headquarters in Germany; responsibilities included sales & marketing-controlling and
strategic planning support for VW North America.
