The present investigation was carried out to study the ichthyofauna diversity of Hiran-II reservo... more The present investigation was carried out to study the ichthyofauna diversity of Hiran-II reservoir. Monthly samples were collected from the selected sites during July 2018 to March 2019. The study revealed that physico-chemical parameters of Hiran-II Reservoir, commercial importance 28 fish species were collected which are belonging to 19 genera, 10 families and 6 orders. Investigated the occurrence of Cypriniformes were dominant (13 species) followed by Siluriformes (6 species), Perciformes (3 species), Channiformes (3 species), Osteoglossiformes (2 species) and Synbranchiformes (1 species). Highest diversity of fish were recorded in the month of December (post monsoon). The range of physico-chemical parameters were observed such as water temperature 21.77°C-28.43°C, pH 7.57-8.43, electrical conductivity 284.3-367.7μmhos/cm, transparency 19.67-30.26/cm, dissolved oxygen 6.77-9.33mg/l, BOD 6.27-8.47mg/l, total alkalinity 212.33-254.67mg/l; total hardness 145-194mg/l, TDS 212.3-271.7mg/l, TSS 25.87-38.90mg/l, nitrate 0.92-2.04, and phosphate 0.59-0.90mg/l.

Changes in biochemical, microbiological and sensory attributes of dried salted lizard fish during storage in gunny bag, air packaging (AP) and vacuum packaging (VP) 200 gauge LDPE were invested. For this study total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), Tri methyl amine nitrogen (TMA-N), Thiobarbituric acid value (TBA), free fatty acid value (FFA) and peroxide value (PV). Sensory attributes and microbiological analyses were carried monthly during storage. Vacuum packaging material has long shelf life among three. Gunny bag has shorter shelf life among three. Air packaging has intermediate half-life. The spoilage in dry fish during storage due to the oxygen trapping, water activity and interaction of fat contain, yeast, mold and bacterial contamination. Packaging material is essential for prevention for dry fish. Batter the Packaging quality batters the dry fish product if raw material and all processing and good handling practice during prepare dry fish. Dried and dehydrated foods are more concentrated than any other forms of food. Dry fish is a good source of protein for people in the rural areas.

The samples were collected from the surface water with the help of a plankton net having amesh size of 64 µm. The samples were preserved for further analysis. The zooplankton specieswere identified using key references. The zooplankton population showedthe correlation with the parameters of water temperature, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, hardness, alkalinity, phosphate, nitrate, total dissolved solids, total suspended solids, electrical conductivity, and transparency. The zooplankton was represented by 15% protozoa, 33% Rotifera, 46% Arthropoda and 6% Miscellaneous in the samples. The range of zooplankton recorded between 136 to 267no./l. The zooplankton density was minimum in January whereas the maximum was observed in October. This study may support to help towards the management of Hiran-II reservoir effectively in the region.

The biological study on Portunus sanguinolentus (Herbst, 1783) was conducted at Veraval coast of Gujarat. It is exploited by the use of trawler throughout the year by the coast. The biological information of crab such as length composition, length-weight relationship, sex ratio, maturity and gonadosomatic index were collected from the multiday trawler operated along the coast. A total 480 crab specimens were studied in the size range from minimum 34.6 mm to maximum 270.2 mm carapace length comprising of 224 males and 256 females. The highest observed length of the crab was 270.2 mm with a mean length of 109 ± 26 mm. The overall sex ratio was 1:1.14. Gonadosomatic index was the highest during March. Sexual maturity indicated that maturation takes place all throughout the year. Gonadosomatic index was higher in the month of August, December, February and March.
