Is a popular ornamental fish that has been traded and cultivated for the aquarium industry, introduced into temperate and tropical regions across the world. Two specimens of A. nigrofasciata were collected from two small creeks draining into the Guavio River, upper Meta River in Mambita, Ubalá, Cundinamarca, Colombia in the Piedmont Orinoco ecoregion. This is the first record of A. nigrofasciata in natural freshwaters of Colombia and the Orinoco River basin. Diagnostic characters of species and updated distribution at country level are provided.
RESUMEN Se describen tres nuevas especies de Hyphessobrycon grupo heterorhabdus de la cuenca alta... more RESUMEN Se describen tres nuevas especies de Hyphessobrycon grupo heterorhabdus de la cuenca alta del río Orinoco, Orinoquia Colombiana. Hyphessobrycon mavro sp. n. se distingue de los otros Hyphessobrycon conocidos de la cuenca del Orinoco por presentar 4 a 6 dientes en el maxilar, 17 dientes en el dentario, por la longitud del hocico 9,9-15,2 % LC y la ausencia de ganchos en las aletas en machos. Hyphessobrycon niger sp. n. puede distinguirse por presentar nueve dientes en el dentario, cinco escamas con poros en la línea lateral, 25 a 26 escamas en la serie lateral del cuerpo, tres escamas entre la línea lateral y las aletas pélvicas, dos escamas entre la línea lateral y la aleta anal y una línea lateral oscura que se continua para unirse con una mancha peduncular conspicua. Hyphessobrycon acaciae sp. n. se diferencia por presentar 14 dientes en el dentario, cuatro radios simples en la aleta anal y ausencia de ganchos óseos en aletas de machos sexualmente maduros. Peces depositados en la colección del Museo de Historia Natural de la Pontificia Universidad Jave... more Peces depositados en la colección del Museo de Historia Natural de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana colectados principalmente en el territorio nacional colombiano (30 departamentos y el distrito capital) e incluye algunos ejemplares de Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Ecuador, Estados Unidos, Ghana, Italia, República de Fiyi y Rusia. Los ejemplares cubren actualmente 14027 registros. La colecta de ejemplares proviene de diferentes actividades como proyectos de investigación y salidas de campo programadas en las cátedras de la universidad. El conjunto de datos cuenta con 14 registros de Artrópodos depositados en la colección y 14014 registros de peces.
