What value does a handkerchief offer us in today's world? While handkerchiefs were once an everyday accessory, modern lifestyles have caused a decline in consumer needs. For Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten's handkerchief brand motta, this presented an existential challenge. Together, we dug into the social, cultural, and philosophical values of a handkerchief, to transform it into a new type of accessory for personal expression. The new motta ventures into the world of perfumery, where the handkerchief becomes a companion piece to personal fragrance. By spraying the handkerchief, folding it, and carrying it throughout the day, you can enjoy a new level of intimacy with your favorite signature scents. Takram New York recently participated in Takram Night #9, where we discussed our journey and the creative process involved in rebranding NOT A HOTEL, Inc. on a global scale. Takram Night is a recurring in-person event hosted at our Tokyo office, where we share recent projects, current initiatives, and other topics that spark our curiosity. Open to all, it's an opportunity for those interested in Takram can explore our work, meet our team, and discover our philosophy. True to Takram's global identity, many of us, including Motosuke Fukuda and Mari Iwahara from Takram New York, dialed in via video call at the crack of dawn to join in. It was a pleasure to share the creative and logistical aspects of the process with a broader audience—from managing the formation of a bi-cultural, multi-city team across different time zones, to the design thinking that shaped NOT A HOTEL's bold yet sophisticated new look, and the research that informed our strategy for connecting with a global audience. Based on a fresh geometric logo, a world of modular patterns opens up to an array of easy and joyful cooking experiences. Highlights from our visit to the Dassai Blue Sake Brewery in Hyde Park! We had a great time touring and tasting, learning how sake is brewed locally here in New York. After a leisurely sampling session with some signature Dassai brews, we high-fived our friend Jocelyn Heyward (one of our Transcultural Tastemakers speakers), and even caught a glimpse of Chairman Hiroshi Sakurai. If you're a sake lover, this state-of-the-art brewery just outside the city offers an unforgettable, immersive experience you don't want to miss. #DassaiBlue #BreweryTour #sakebrewery #japanesecuisine #TransculturalTastemakers #upsatenewyork

Introducing Gift&Stock, a new emergency food brand that encourages giving your loved ones the gift of preparedness, in the form of canned foods that are truly delicious and beautiful to look at for stocking pantries. As pandemics and natural disasters become increasingly common, emergency preparedness is essential now more than ever. In Japan, where natural disasters such as earthquakes and heavy rain are quite common, it is recommended that households stockpile a week's worth of food in case of a major disaster—yet reports claim that only 25% of the population follow this recommendation. How might we reach and encourage consumers to increase their household food reserves? We set this as our project brief and partnered with Iwate-Kanzume Inc. (Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture), a maker of premium canned foods. We were involved in every stage of development—from developing a business model to product concept and design—to produce the brand's first products: three varieties of canned seafood risotto. Branding / Business Design: Takram & Hakuhodo Inc. Manufacturer: Iwate Kanzume Inc.
