D students F SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS 1 I was awarded Ph.D. fellowship, University of Karachi, 1973-75. 2 Working skills, use and maintenance of modern scientific equipments like AA Spectrophotometer, FT-IR & UV Spectrophotometers, HPLC, Fluorimeters, Ultra Centrifuges, Incubators etc. 3 Independently carried out number of research projects, financed by Pakistan Science Foundation, University Grants Commission, Higher Education Commission, Ministry of Health and Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Karachi. 4 As a Dean, I had the opportunity to develop a proactive strategy to improve education quality and standards, and as a result many developments were instituted, including being instrumental in elevating virtually unknown Pakistan Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PJPS) to a new dimension, and placing it among internationally accredited and indexed in National Library of Medicine, Washington DC (NLM.com) and twenty other International databases. PJPS in 2010 was assigned the highest impact factor of 1.2 for among all research journal published from Pakistan. 5 Besides profound administrative assignments and an average of twelve credit hours per week’s teaching load, supervised thirty five (35) Ph.D’s including ten HEC awarded Indigenous Ph.D students, forty three (43) M.Phils., nine (9) M.Pharm and fifty one (51) M.Sc. Thesis’s. Presently supervising and co-supervising two Ph.D students. 6 Published Five Books (graduate and post-graduate level), out of which six editions of one book has already been published and sold. Most of the research work is oriented on drug – drug interactions or drug metal interaction studies. The interaction of some drugs as cephalosporins, quinolones, antacids, H2-receptor antagonists, NSAID’S, ACE inhibitors, macrolides & proton pump inhibitors with essential and trace elements in the human body in-vitro have been studied in simulated to natural environments. Moreover, the microbiological activities of these drugs after complexation have been compared with the parent drug against various reported microorganisms, where most of the investigations revealed that on formation of complexes, there is decrease in the antibacterial activity of the drugs. Some of the newly synthesized complexes have been studied using X-ray diffraction analysis. Furthermore, some new, easy accurate & economical methods of assay of the drugs have been developed using UV & HPLC techniques which are being published in National and International Journals.
