The Systems Modeling Language (SysML) is the most popular tool for model-based development of multidisciplinary systems. Several research works and industrial pilot projects have applied the OMG-standardized language in the last years, but it has still not become widely accepted. Previous experiences of the authors from several research projects with industry underline this statement and have shown that engineers still have trouble in applying SysML. This paper investigates possible reasons for this issue and presents results of a survey regarding term understanding of engineers as well as acceptance of SysML.

Moreover, the present invention relates to a process for their operation. For energy-efficient management of the motor vehicle according to the invention provided that the size of the additional restoring force (F) on the accelerator pedal (1) is designed such that the accelerator pedal (1) assumes a position which shifts the operating point of the drive motor in...

The development process is attended by massive challenges in improving product quality with coevally reduction of development time and costs. IPEK and AVL have established a research cooperation project to cope with that issue. The result is a software-based approach for functional decomposition and modeling of interdisciplinary systems and their interrelations to customer objectives. The standardized OMG Systems Modeling Language (SysML) has been applied and extended by an according profile to become the underlying documentation and communication basis for this approach. An application example of a hybrid powertrain is introduced to validate the additional benefit for automotive development engineers.

The all-embracing integration of specialists from multiple disciplines is proven to be a major challenge in the product engineering process. This article presents the experiences and advancements made within one year of explorative industrial application of an integrated technique for sustainable, multidisciplinary model-based systems engineering. The technique consists of two main partitions: the consistent specification of objectives and requirements on the one hand and a function-based modeling technique for the according System Architecture using the Contact & Channel – Approach (C&C²-A) on the other hand. Embedding it into the integrated Product engineering Model (iPeM) provides a capable and flexible guideline for managers and engineers. This article starts with a short introduction to Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and the most popular modeling langua...
