Iohannes Hugonis Linscotanus,[1] vulgo Jan Huygen van Linschoten (Harlemi natus anno 1563; Enchusae(nl) die 8 Februarii 1611 mortuus) fuit mercator, peregrinator et emissarius Batavus.
Enchusae educatus, e familia mercatorum ortus, anno 1579 Hispali operam dedit atque ab anno insequenti Olisipone, sed anno 1583 secretarius factus est archepiscopo Goano, quo post quinque annos mortuo, Europam anno 1579 iterum petivit, sed, in insula Sanctae Helenae et Azoribus retentus, non ante annum 1582 ad Enchusam revenit. Annis insequentibus bis cum expeditionibus Batavis (duce Gulielmo Barentsio) in regiones Arcticas profectus est. Ab anno 1597, matrimonio coniunctus, Enchusae moravit ubi thesaurarius municipalis merebat.
