Zea est genus magnarum poacearum, in Mexico, Guatemala, et Nicaragua endemicarum.
Sunt quinque zeae species notae: Zea diploperennis, Zea perennis, Zea luxurians, Zea nicaraguensis, et Zea mays, quarum ultima est divisa in quattuor subspecies, vulgo appellatas huehuetenangensis, mexicana, parviglumis (his tribus teosintes appellatis), et mays, solum generis Zeae taxon domesticum.
