With the boom in the population, the number of vehicles on the roads is increasing drastically, e... more With the boom in the population, the number of vehicles on the roads is increasing drastically, especially in the urban areas. And hence most of the countries are making efforts to expand the network of roadways to reduce traffic on the roads. But according to Braess's Paradox, it was proven that building a new road is not the solution to reduce traffic. But, India is still dependent upon the traffic policemen. It was a need to develop some more efficient system of traffic light which is cheaper than the other devices. The problem can be resolved by using an intelligent technology in monitoring the traffic in all directions from any remote source in which the system automatically detects the traffic by entering the coordinates of road intersection and some nearby distance which can be manually modified and entered in the system and information is received via Google Maps distance matrix API and change the duration of the traffic signal automatically. Hence, it would be more efficient. And this data is automatically being stored on a data warehouse for checking the traffic trend on the road and for future use. For demonstration, VNC viewer remote desktop can be used to check the traffic trend.

With the increase in the traffic density and inefficient conventional methods of traffic manageme... more With the increase in the traffic density and inefficient conventional methods of traffic management has led to an increase in the road congestion events. This paper primarily focuses on developing a module to be setup in the traffic lights poles to monitor the live traffic of any particular location and automatically adjusting the duration of the traffic lights accordingly. In this module, there is a system which is based upon Raspberry Pi, it communicates with the Google map distance matrix API via servers to get the live traffic updates of that particular area. Now, according to the traffic information received, the algorithms are used to decide the duration of the traffic signals instantly and automatically the changes are made in the duration of the traffic signal for better management of traffic congestion. Also, this data of the changes in the duration of traffic is continuously stored online on the servers or website through IOT systems and hence the duration of the traffic at every crossing is recorded on continuous basis and the data can be checked at regular intervals to observe the traffic trend of every area at different durations of the day which can be a help in future. For demonstrative purpose, a software available on multi platforms can be used to demonstrate the live traffic fashion.
