Jack Lennon
My research interests include pre-Christian Roman religion, and magic in Roman law and literature. I am also interested in the political history of the late Republic and early Principate.
I was awarded my PhD in July 2011. Following this, I worked as Teaching Fellow in Ancient History at University College London, Assistant Lecturer in Ancient History at Kent, Teaching Associate in Ancient History at Nottingham, before taking up a permanent position as Lecturer in Ancient History at the University of Leicester.
My thesis offered a detailed study of the phenomenon of religious pollution in ancient Rome and I remain interested in Roman attitudes about dirtiness and hygiene. I am also interested in studying the processes behind social, political and religious marginalisation in antiquity. This is forming the basis of my next monograph, which is exploring the role of denigration as a means of marginalising social, professional and ethnic groups in Rome.
