Dr Summaira Sarfraz, Professor and Dean Sciences and Humanities was invited as a key Penalist at the Opening Ceremony of Literary Festival at GCU. The Penal consisted of renowned academicians Dr Tariq Rehman, Dr Ayesha Jalal, Dr Waeem Anwar and Mr Osama Adnan. The topic of the Panel discussion was How have language policies and the English language perpetuated colonial ideologies? Dr Summaira highlighted that colonialism has been transformed into a particular mindset and the use of English language should not be judged as a contributor to colonialism rather as a medium of global communication. She emphasized that language policies should cater to the needs of multicultural and multilingual societies for the promotion of national and regional languages. The ceremony was attended by the faculty, guests and a large number of students who later on participated in the QA session.
