Abstract
Rod Downey has a long career of important discoveries in the recently developed subjects of computability and computer science. These remarks were delivered by invitation at the 50th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Computer Science Department at Cornell. This was a time of transition from computers and computer programming to computer science.
