About Event

The Muscle Aging Science & Translation (MAST) Symposium, hosted by the Aging Initiative at Harvard (aging-initiative.org) and the Norn Group (https://norn.group/), aims to catalyze education, research, and innovation towards frailty, age-related muscle loss, and associated diseases. Note: registration approval is required to attend!

We're thrilled to be joined by luminaries in the field, and we can't wait for their panel discussions during MAST! Huge thanks to our sponsors Eli Lilly, Novartis, Retro Bio, Aging Journal, and the American Federation for Aging Research.

Confirmed speakers so far are listed below:

Biopharma and Drug Development: Dr. Anne Ulrike-Trendelenburg (Director of Diseases of Aging and Regenerative Medicine at Novartis), Dr. David Glass (VP of Research, Aging/Age-Related Disorders at Regeneron), Dr. Andrew Adams (Group Vice President of Molecule Discovery & Director of Genetic Medicines at Eli Lilly), Dr. Kenneth Attie (VP of Clinical Research at Eli Lilly and Chief Medical Officer at Versanis Bio)

Exercise Science: Jeff Nippard (Professional bodybuilder, powerlifter, and science communicator to over 6.5 million YouTube subscribers), Prof. Brad Schoenfeld (Professor of Exercise Science at Lehman College)

Next Generation Therapeutic Approaches: Lada Nuzhna (Founder & CEO at Stealth Start-up, Director of Impetus Grants, and Thiel Fellow)

In Vivo Pooled Screening for Translational Discovery in Osteoarthritis: Francisco LePort (Co-Founder & CEO at Gordian Biotechnology)

Clinical Research: Prof. Shivani Sahni (Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center), Prof. Yi-Hsiang Hsu (Assistant Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center). Prof. Douglas Kiel (Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center), Prof. Roger Fielding (Professor of Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine and Associate Director, Boston Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center)

Age-related frailty threatens mobility, independence, and quality of life. Despite their prevalence, there are no approved treatments for sarcopenia or muscle preservation during bed rest or hip fracture recovery, and disease-modifying therapies for osteoarthritis remain elusive. With aging populations worldwide, the need for innovation in treatment strategies, patient care, and clinical development is urgent. This conference brings together the Boston academic and biotech communities to discuss emerging solutions and drive collaboration in the fight against muscle aging.

We hope this conference can help spark the next generation of efforts in this crucial area of muscle aging and translation, particularly among up-and-coming researchers and students in the space.
