Nephropathy is characterised to varying degrees by nodular glomerulosclerosis, glomerular basement membrane thickness and mesangial expansion, leading to a decline in glomerular filtration rate, persistent elevated albuminuria, elevated arterial blood pressure and fluid retention. Hyperglycaemia, hyperlipidaemia and hypertension are considered to be the major risk factors implicated in the progression of nephropathy.Various signalling systems, such as vasoconstrictor peptides, inflammatory mediators, growth factors and adhesion molecules, are involved in the pathogenesis of nephropathy. At present, no promising therapy is available to treat patients with nephropathy due to lack of understanding of signalling culprits involved in the pathogenesis of nephropathy. Animal models are being developed to better understand the disease pathogenesis and develop dru...

Non‐compliance can lead to worsening of diseased condition. Numbers of taste masking technologies have been used to address the problem of patient compliance. Use of sweeteners, amino acids and flavouring agents alone are often inadequate in masking the Taste of highly bitter drugs. Coating is more efficient technology for aggressively bitter Drugs even though coating imperfections, if present, reduce the efficiency of the technique in Ion exchange resin (IER) method weak cation exchange or weak anion exchange resins are used for taste masking, depending on the nature of drug in the suspension. Drug resin complex formed is such that saliva is not able to break in the saliva but it is weak enough to break down by hydrochloric acid present in the stomach. Thus the drug resin complex is absolutely tasteless with no after taste, and at the same time, its...

The basic principle behind this technique is that the amount of light absorbed is proportional to the concentration of analyte. Simultaneous equation is applicable for the estimation of those drugs where the spectra of drugs overlap properly whereas multi - component analysis can be applied on any degree of spectral overlap provided that two or more spectra are not similar exactly. Q uantitative estimation is necessary before introduction o f any drug into the market as either concentration is more in formulation can cau se toxicity problem or if concentration is found less , then formu lation may not be effective in prescribed dose.
