Congratulations, new MIT graduates! At yesterday’s OneMIT Commencement ceremony, inventor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Noubar Afeyan urged the graduating class to take on seemingly impossible missions. Today, undergraduates receive their diplomas in Killian Court; a livestream will be available at 10 a.m. ET.

Researchers at MIT and elsewhere found that the sun’s magnetic field could form much closer to the star’s surface than previously thought. “The findings could help improve forecasts of solar activity that can affect satellites, power grids, and communications systems on Earth — and produce magnificent auroras.”
