This paper presents an accurate practical and analytical method for determining the structural deformation and axis inclination of high rise cooling towers using terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) observations through the projection of tower surface points coordinates on a vertical plane. Four cooling towers in El-Mahla El-Kubra city, Egypt are observed and studied. Two of them with height 56 m, and the others were 36 m height. The studied four towers have different cross-section diameters along the tower height. Each tower has a cone shape with a curved wall. The equation of the tower wall is determined using TLS observations and least squares adjustment techniques. The equations of cone projection wi...

To create accurate digital maps for the soil characteristics of this area, data are collected mechanically, manually and in the laboratory and loaded up with the help of GIS technology using Modified Inverse Distance Weighted as a spatial interpolation technique throughout using 119 soil samples inside Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, Egypt. A digital elevation map of the Delta region has been downloaded using remote sensing technology to obtain the reduced levels of the different points for the studied area. Data were analyzed and studied well to produce six digital maps describing the important physical and geotechnical characteristics of soil such as groundwater level, p...

The detailed information about the structural deformations can help to determine the health of these structures. This paper investigates an integrated monitoring system for estimation the deformation behavior of structural members. Two different surveying techniques (one and two total stations measurement techniques) are presented to evaluate the deformation behavior of structural members. The comparison study between the surveying and structural techniques for computation the structural deformation of reinforced concrete beams is introduced and discussed.

Many of these effects are caused by known sources such as the Earth’s rotation, distance from the Earth’s center, topographic relief, and tidal variation. Physical fields are the main component of many centuries of the paradigm of all of Earth Sciences. The changing gravitational field is very important subject of research in the scientific aspect and practical. This paper applies two analytical models to simplify the gravitation calculation, which are sphere and cone models. Examples and finite element applications for the two models are studied also and discussed. The results of this study reveal that the possibility of using the proposed method with using presented analytical, finite element and numerical models to estimate the better determination of the characteristics of the local gravity of natural and man-made objects of sizes up to several tens of kilometers.

The prestressed concrete (PSC) girders and reinforcement concrete (RC) slab of the bridge are evaluated and assessed. A short period monitoring system is designed which comprises displacement, strain and accelerometer sensors to measure the bridge performance under static and dynamic trucks loads. The statistical analysis is used to assess the static behavior of the bridge and the wavelet analysis and probabilistic using Weibull distribution are used to evaluate the frequency and reliability of the dynamic behavior of the bridge. The results show that the bridge is safe under static and dynamic loading cases. In the static evaluation, the measured neutral axis position of the girders is deviated within 5% from its theoretical position. The dynamic amplification factor of the bridge girder and slab are lower than the design value of that factor. The ...

According to the World Health Organization, most persons infected with this virus suffer from mild to severe respiratory infections and recover without specific treatment or hospitalization. Some people, however, may acquire serious illnesses that need medical attention and isolation facilities. This paper investigates the use of multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) based on GIS technology to determine the optimal site selection for isolation hospitals for coronavirus patients in Nile Delta region in Egypt using the fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (F-AHP) and the weighted overlay tool analysis method (WOA). The research of isolation hospital site selection in Nile Delta governorates in Egypt is one of the areas that have received insufficient attention due to the current global coronavirus epidemic. Several criteria are applied to identify and select the iso...

Modified inverse distance weight (MIDW) and principal component analysis (PCA) are developed to predict the nonmeasurable settlement of raft foundations and are compared to regression techniques. Wall measurements are used to verify the proposed interpolation methods. Six observation epochs were carried out over 3 years for the R.C raft foundation of a multistory building in Baltim, Egypt, which rests on clay soil, to monitor and predict the foundation settlement. The obtained results show that PCA and MIDW models outperform other models in interpolating nonmeasurable (invisible) points, while the accuracy of MIDW is the best. The developed techniques can be used to interpolate nonmeasurable (invisible) points to understand the actual behavior of foundation settlement. The monitoring building showe...
Water is the main source of daily life for everyone and everywhere in the world. Sufficient water... more Water is the main source of daily life for everyone and everywhere in the world. Sufficient water distribution depends on the place and design of water tank in certain areas. Water storage tanks are relatively flexible structures and they can tolerate greater settlements than other engineering structures. Deformation of tanks may cause severe damages to tank or even loss of life and injury to people, so monitoring the structural deformation and dynamic response of water tank and its supporting system to the large variety of external loadings has a great importance for maintaining tank safety and economical design of manmade structures. This paper presents an accurate geodetic observations technique to investigate the inclination of an elevated circular water tank and the deformation of its supporting structural system (supporting columns and circular horizontal beams) using reflector-less total station. The studied water tank was designed to deliver water to around 55000 person and ...

This is done to preserve and restore any valuable architectural or other cultural monument, as a support to architectural, archaeological and other art-historical research throughout the ages. The purpose of this paper is to use close range photogrammetry technique (CRP) to reconstruct 3D model of architectural and historical mosque facade and comparing the accuracy of using digital commercial non-metric cameras with different resolutions and metric camera with flatbed scanner and photogrammetric scanner for architectural building documentation. El-Nasr Mosque façade in Mansoura city, Egypt was chosen as a case study in this paper. At first, twenty five points were selected at mosque façade at different elevations and distributed at different f...

It is one of the best visualization methods for representing reality. This paper presents different techniques for the creation and spatial analysis of 3D city modeling based on Geographical Information System (GIS) technology using free data sources. To achieve that goal, the Mansoura University campus, located in Mansoura city, Egypt, was chosen as a case study. The minimum data requirements to generate a 3D city model are the terrain, 2D spatial features such as buildings, landscape area and street networks. Moreover, building height is an important attribute in the 3D extrusion process. The main challenge during the creation process is the dearth of accurate free datasets, and the time-consuming editing. Therefore, different data sources are used in this study to eva...
