Patients and methods: Between March 2013 and May 2013, a total of 31 patients with SB (11 males, 20 females; mean age: 9.4 years; range, 6 to 14.7 years) and 36 typically developing peers (16 males, 20 females; mean age: 9.8 years; range, 6.5 to 14.8 years) were included in the study. All participants were assessed using a semi-structured psychiatric diagnostic interview via the Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia Present and Lifetime Version (K-SADS-PL), Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R), Behavioral Rating Inventory of Executive Functions (BRIEF) parent form, Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS), and Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC). Results: In the SB group, the rate of psychiatric disorders was significantly higher (p=0.001) and the SRS scores and the plannin...

PCS patients may exhibit symptoms of physical, psychiatric (emotional and behavioral) and cognitive inabilities. Patients, except for the 10%, make a full recovery between 3-6 months. While patients with PCS show vitally acute symptoms at the outset, the clinical recovery is dramatically good. A fifteen-year-old female patient who had undergone a head trauma as the result of falling down from height showed a clinically dramatic recovery after an 18-day-treatment of intensive care. We aimed to draw the attention to the association between the psychiatric findings that appeared to be likely to be associated with negative life events and the clinical picture of a post-traumatic severe headache resistant to treatment. This clinical picture, when dealt with the holistic multidisciplinary approach, may indicate PCS to us.

Reports of suicide attempts in ADHD cases with high dose longacting methylphenidate (MPH) are limited in the literature. In this case report, a 13-year-old boy who had attempted suicide by ingesting 1350 mg long-acting MPH and 2 mg risperidon is discussed. While the patient did not have life threatening symptoms, emergency medical intervention was necessary.

This study was conducted as a part of the "The Epidemiology of Childhood Psychopathology in Turkey" (EPICPAT-T) Study, which was designed by the Turkish Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health. The inclusion criterion was being a student between the second and fourth grades in the schools assigned as study centers. The assessment tools used were the K-SADS-PL, and a sociodemographic form that was designed by the authors. Impairment was assessed via a 3 point-Likert type scale independently rated by a parent and a teacher. A total of 5842 participants were included in the analyses. The prevalence of affective disorders was 2.5 % without considering impairment and 1.6 % when impairment was taken into account. In our sample, the diagnosis of bipolar disorder was lacking, thus depressive disorders constituted all the cases. Among depressive disorders with...
