Firstly, the ADF unit root test is applied to examine the stationary of the variables. Then Gregory-Hansen and Arai-Kurozumi cointegration tests, the Dynamic Least Squares (DOLS) approach, are employed to determine the coefficient size and direction of the variables. The findings reveal that the relationship between the inflation rate and the BIST100 index is positive and significant, while the relationship between interest rates is negative and significant. Also, the relationship between exchange rates is negative and insignificant in the study. Additionally, the impacts of the global economic crisis of 2008, which is used as a dummy variable in the study, on gold prices in Tu...

There is substantial room for improvement in financial and business services. Trade liberalization and lack of adequate preparation appears to have resulted in a weakening of their comparative advantages over the years. However, their revealed comparative advantages remain, by and large, stable and do not show a fundamental shift in the structure of their comparative advantages.Originality/valueThere are no studies examining ...

To study Turkey’s competitiveness and its progress two widely used indexes are calculated, revealed comparative advantage (RCA) and comparative export performance (CEP). Moreover; import demand functions of EU are estimated for rival countries. In this regression analysis our hypothesis is that if Turkey is competitor for these countries, its price will have statistically significant effect on export demand functions. Both index and regression results indicate that Turkey has a strikingly high comparative advantage in fruit juice and olive oil markets in the EU but not in tomato market. In this context, this study aims to predict Turkey's sustainable food safety policies. For this reason, the system dynamics model, which is a dynamic cycle-based method with stock and flow diagrams, is used in this paper. This study supposed the six different scenarios for 2020 and 2050. Data were selected as population, productivity rate, arable land fertility rate, and annual food consumption (per capita). The purpose of creating these scenarios; To determine the most appropriate policy to ensure food safety in Turkey. In the first scenario, we assumed that the current situation continues. In the second scenario, the average productivity rate was increased by 1.5%. The third scenario assumes that annual per capita food consumption rises to 1.2 tonnes per year. In the fourth scenario, the total fertility rate is accelerated by 2%. In the fifth scenario, we assumed that the a...

In addition to macroeconomic variables, we make use of ten economic freedom indices for assessing the development of the domestic investment climate. European Union membership brought greater market access, fewer trade barriers and increased foreign investor interests to Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovenia. Also, perspective of future E U membership has increased foreign investor confidence in countries such as Tu rkey, Albania, Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Using panel data analysis, w e find that market size measured by real GDP is a positive and significant determinant of FDI inflows. We show that major positive political developments esp ecially those related to perspective EU membership and legal reforms have significant positive effects in attracting FDI into the region. It mainly studies the effects on Turkey, Argentina and South Korea. This paper is divided into three parts. The first part evaluates the purposes of the IMF-supported adjustment programs in general. According to the IMF, the goals of these programs are to restore “sustainable economic growth.” The second part studies the IMF Standby Agreements made with Argentina and their impact on the public sector, trade, the finance sector, and the labor market. The third part explores the effects of the IMF’s programs on South Korea’s macroeconomic balances. Finally, the paper offers a number of recommendations and assesses the overall effect of the IMF programs on Turkey in particular and on developing countries in general.

The aim of this paper is to offer answers to the question that how should be a governance model in which China, Turkey, Brazil, India and other G-20 countries are more active decision-makers, instead of an international monetary system dominated by the USA. Firstly, the cause of the crisis, that is, the fact that USD relatively ceased to be the reserve money will be analyzed. Secondly, the process of transformation in the IMF administration in a way to allow G-20 countries a more active participation will be addressed. Finally, Turkey’s role in the restructuration of the global financial system -a process which had stemmed from the emergence of global governance through the integration of capital markets and excessive deregulation- will be analyzed, and policy recommendations for bette...

As a result, the Federal Reserve Bank has many privileges such as the ability to run trade deficits without foreign exchange reserves. In the world, foreign exchange rates of currencies are quoted against the dollar, and majority of currency trading involves the dollar. Besides, international trade in primary commodities, such as oil, wheat, gold and coffee are bought and sold in U.S. dollar. The central banks of countries hold major positions of their international reserves in dollars. Any changes in its interest rates automatically alter the revenues of all world assets. With deregulated financial markets, the spillover effects of the Federal Reserve Bank’s decisions have increased. In this paper, we examine the impacts of Federal Reserve Bank policies over the Fragile Five that is a sub group of the weaker emerging markets namely Brazil, India, Indonesia, South Africa and Turkey....
