Talk:Spam blacklist
- Proposed additions
- Please provide evidence of spamming on several wikis. Spam that only affects a single project should go to that project's local blacklist. Exceptions include malicious domains and URL redirector/shortener services. Please follow this format. Please check back after submitting your report, there could be questions regarding your request.
- Proposed removals
- Please check our list of requests which repeatedly get declined. Typically, we do not remove domains from the spam blacklist in response to site-owners' requests. Instead, we de-blacklist sites when trusted, high-volume editors request the use of blacklisted links because of their value in support of our projects. Please consider whether requesting whitelisting on a specific wiki for a specific use is more appropriate - that is very often the case.
- Other discussion
- Troubleshooting and problems - If there is an error in the blacklist (i.e. a regex error) which is causing problems, please raise the issue here.
- Discussion - Meta-discussion concerning the operation of the blacklist and related pages, and communication among the spam blacklist team.
- #wikimedia-external-linksconnect - Real-time IRC chat for co-ordination of activities related to maintenance of the blacklist.
- Whitelists
There is no global whitelist, so if you are seeking a whitelisting of a url at a wiki then please address such matters via use of the respectiveMediawiki talk:Spam-whitelist
page at that wiki, and you should consider the use of the template {{edit protected}} or its local equivalent to get attention to your edit.
Please sign your posts with ~~~~ after your comment. This leaves a signature and timestamp so conversations are easier to follow.
Completed requests are marked as {{added}}
/{{removed}}
or {{declined}}
, and are generally archived quickly. Additions and removals are logged · current log 2024/12.

Proposed additions
[edit]This section is for proposing that a website be blacklisted; add new entries at the bottom of the section, using the basic URL so that there is no link (example.com, not http://www.example.com). Provide links demonstrating widespread spamming by multiple users on multiple wikis. Completed requests will be marked as {{added}} or {{declined}} and archived. |
usdolly.rocks
[edit]usdolly.rocks
User:Mojakabira
I think that user User:Mojakabira was trying to promote their own websites and a cryptocurrency at the following pages: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolly_(sheep) https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolly_(sheep) https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolly_(schaap) They are already blocked on enwiki. They have created a new subsection and posted about the cryptocurrency and a link to the website. Website is just 35 days old and owner/admin of the website has the same username: usdolly.rocks/index.php/author/mojakabira/ Thank you. Margarita byca (talk) 17:17, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Declined It's just one user. It's better to discuss or block rather than resort to blacklisting. XXBlackburnXx (talk) 05:55, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

Proposed removals
[edit]This section is for proposing that a website be unlisted; please add new entries at the bottom of the section. Use a suitable 3rd level heading and display the domain name as per this example {{LinkSummary|targetdomain.com}} . Please do not add the protocol part of domain name, eg. http
Remember to provide the specific domain blacklisted, links to the articles they are used in or useful to, and arguments in favour of unlisting. Completed requests will be marked as See also recurring requests for repeatedly proposed (and refused) removals. Notes:

lnk.to
[edit]lnk.to
This does not seem to be a url shortener (any more), but a hosting platform (such as myspace or so). It seems that several artists have their main profile there. So i guess it should be removed. But I'm not sure.
-- seth (talk) 23:51, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- It seems now to redirect to 'linkfire.com', which is a music promotion platform
linkfire.com
- Guess we don't need to use lnk.to, we can use the actual link. Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 11:04, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- lnk.to isn't exactly a link shortener (though the domain is short); it's more like a link aggregator that functions similarly to a redirector. It's only meant for influencers with an expensive subscription, so I wouldn't mind if it's removed. XXBlackburnXx (talk) 13:14, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- This is not done yet, so I took it back here from archive. -- seth (talk) 14:21, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- It seems that there are lnk.to URLs which don't redirect to other URLs, for example bacwirdmaljemand.lnk.to/bio is not a redirect.

azurefd.net
[edit]azurefd.net
The International Sports Federation ISU (https://isu.org) has been posting all documents on azurefd.net (which is on the spam blacklist), since updating its website. Links to the documents of this federation are often placed in Wikipedia articles as sources. As a consequence, it is not possible to publish an edit with such a link now. I don't know much about the spam blacklist system, so if there are other ways to use these links in Wikipedia articles without problems, please advise, and I'll close this discussion in that case.--Beonus (talk) 15:48, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
Troubleshooting and problems
[edit]static.net
[edit]static.net
Special:Diff/187527 added an entry for static\.net
that was later tightened up to \bstatic\.net
, presumably to avoid tripping up a domain like "examplestatic.net". However, a user on the OpenStreetMap Wiki has discovered that this rule still blocks the user-content.gitlab-static.net domain, which GitLab uses to cache external content that's embedded in Markdown documents or attached to comments. In this particular case, I'm going to suggest that the user refrain from linking to GitLab static content for unrelated reasons, but I'm guessing this domain has nothing to do with the original context behind this entry. Could it be modified to \.static\.net
like many of the other entries? Thanks! – Minh Nguyễn 💬 18:49, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Mxn: Done! Honestly we could probably just remove it. It's almost 20 years old, and I’m not even sure what it was meant to catch... XXBlackburnXx (talk) 20:01, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed this should be removed. static.net is 404 these days. * Pppery * it has begun 06:01, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Done, I removed the entry now. -- seth (talk) 14:25, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
