Mai Neo
Dr. Mai Neo is Professor and Program Coordinator for the Master of Multimedia (e-learning technologies) in the Faculty of Creative Multimedia. She is also Chair of the Centre for Adaptive Multimedia, Education and Learning cOntent Technologies (CAMELOT) (http://mile.mmu.edu.my/orion/ camelot), Director of the The MILE Research lab, for enhanced student learning in constructivist-based learning platforms (http://projectmile.org), and co-Leader for the Multimedia University's Blended Learning Group. Mai leads an award-winning research team, developing The MILE Project, a student-centred learning platform, winning 4 Silver Medals in international research and innovation exhibitions (IPHEX2015, ITEX2014, PECIPTA'13 and ICICM'13).
She is the recipient of the 2014 Excellent Researcher Award in Multimedia University, for her contributions to research and academics in FCM and MMU, and is currently a Visiting Research Professor at Inje University's School of Design, South Korea, until the end of 2014.
Previous positions held included Dean, Institute of Postgraduate Studies, Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, Malaysia, Director of R&D Collaborations, Multimedia University, and Deputy Dean of Staff and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Creative Multimedia. She was also the Program Coordinator of the Multimedia systems department in FCM.
She was also formerly the Faculty Internship Coordinator for the Digital Media, Film and Animation, Interface Design, Media Innovation, and Virtual Reality departments. She teaches classes in Computer Graphics, Interactive Multimedia, Digital Media and Design Research, Copywriting, Professional Practice, Projrct Management and Final Year Project (for Media Innovation majors) at the undergraduate level, and Masters classes in the Masters of Multimedia (E-Learning Technologies) and Knowledge Management, such as Principles of Multimedia in Educational Technology, Interactive Multimedia Development, Learning Theories, Organisational Behavior, and Research Methodology.
Mai's research interests are in the design of constructivist learning environments and supervises Masters and PhD students in the following areas:
* Multimedia authoring technologies in the teaching and learning process
* Use of interactive multimedia projects in teaching and learning methods
* Problem-solving learning (PSL)
* Collaborative and cooperative learning
* Project-based learning
* Interactive multimedia learning
* Authentic learning in e-learning environments
* Using Web 2.0 tools in learning environments
* Multimedia microlearning environments
Mai has written 9 books on multimedia, over 100 internationally referreed publications and was a regular multimedia columnist in Malaysia's Computimes and Computimes Shopper. She has published extensively in many international referreed journals, including the Australasian Journal of Educational Technology (AJET), Educational Technology & Society Journal (ETS), Journal of Computer-Assisted Learning (JCAL), Learning Media and Technology (LMT), International Journal of Instructional Media (IJIM), Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology (TOJET) and many more. She is also on the Reviewer Board of the Australasian Journal of Educational Technology (AJET), Technology, Pedagogy and Education, Australian Educational Researcher (AER), Educational Technology & Society Journal (ETS), Journal of Computer-Assisted Learning (JCAL), the Korean Journal of Integrated Design Research, the ASCILITE international conferences and many more international and local conferences, and has completed her tenure as an Excutive Committee Member for the EdMedia conference (AACE) for the 2010-2013 period.
Mai has also served as Technical Consultant for the MGS, eContent and ScienceFund grants of the Malaysian Ministry of Science and Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), and a University member for the Internal Screening Committee for External Funds.
When not working or doing research, Mai's interests include Muay Thai kickboxing, music, reading, and doting on her 4 cats, Hercules, Zorro, Samson and Isis, her dog, Bella, as can be seen on her Facebook posts, and believes that, "a day without laughter is a day wasted" (quote by Charlie Chaplin).
