The intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) is a commonly used method of contraception for women... more The intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) is a commonly used method of contraception for women. However, there is a rare but serious risk of migration into the myometrium and then into the peritoneal cavity. IUCD migration into bowel, bladder, omentum, abdominal wall has been reported. We report here, a rare case of an IUCD migrating through the uterus into the peritoneal cavity and subsequently invading into the sigmoid colon.

Gall Stone Ileus: A Rare Case Report of Two Patients

Gallstone ileus (GI) is characterized by occlusion of the intestinal lumen as a result of one or ... more Gallstone ileus (GI) is characterized by occlusion of the intestinal lumen as a result of one or more gallstones. GI is a rare complication of gallstones seen in 1%-4% of all cases of bowel obstruction [1]. Here we present two cases of gallstone ileus which came to us over period of four years. Management of GI is controversial and includes: (i) Enterotomy with stone extraction alone; (ii) Enterotomy, stone extraction, cholecystectomy and fistula closure; (iii) Bowel resection alone; and (iv) Bowel resection with fistula closure. In our case, we did enterotomy & stone extraction alone. Till now patients have remained symptom free. Enterotomy with stone extraction alone remains the most common surgical method because of its low incidence of complications.

Enterocutaneous fistula (ECF) is a rare and late complication following mesh repair for incisiona... more Enterocutaneous fistula (ECF) is a rare and late complication following mesh repair for incisional hernias. This report is a case series of two patients reporting ECF following 10 and 13 years after open surgery for the incisional hernia. Laparotomy was performed in both and the defect was repaired by anatomical closure without a mesh. This case report emphasizes that although polypropylene mesh has been shown to be relatively safe in many studies, it can at times be associated with long-term ECF.
