Following on from 2024’s Bad Boy Etiquette 102: Continuous Assessment, Ajebo Hustlers return with their signature straddling of highlife, R&B, Afrobeats and rap. While their sound may resist easy categorisation, this Onorato EP is unambiguous in its intentions, with its title translating to “honour should be given”. This four-track statement by the Port Harcourt duo is a culmination of both a career and discography advocating for those moving in lockstep with the Kpos Lifestyle. “Every track is a reflection of our journey, our hustle and the energy that got us here,” they tell Apple Music. “This one is for the culture, fans and everyone who knows the grind never stops. Respect the movement. Respect the sound.” Onorato fittingly maintains the Hustlers’ signature process of imbuing rhythmic instrumentation with both inescapable melodies and insightful lyricism. It’s in this setting that the sensual guitars of “Movie Star” and groove-filled “Velvet” are held up against the defiant, Timaya-assisted “Yan Yan Po”. It’s the Victony-featuring “Ave Maria” that mirrors the eternal Ajebo Hustler paradox, though, with the lyrics “Na money be the problem/Na money be the solution” worthy of literary honour.
