Asia produces and consumes more than 70% of the world’s vegetables. Their production and consumption are rising due to increase in consumer’s income. Vegetables are also associated with improvement of gastrointestinal health, good vision, and reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, chronic diseases such as diabetes, and some forms of cancer. The consumption and caloric contribution of vegetables to the diet vary widely with geographical region, nationality, local customs and cuisine. Vegetable production suffers from many biotic stresses caused by pathogens, pests, and weeds and requires high amounts of plant protection products per hectare. US vegetables farmers are benefiting from growing transgenic squash cultivars resistant to Zucchini yellow mosaic virus, Watermelon mosaic virus, and Cucumber mosaic virus, which were deregulated and ...

Bhagwa was conducted at College Farm, College of Horticulture, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Jagudan, District-Mehsana in Gujarat, India during Mrig bahar (June-January) 2017-18 and 2018-19. The present investigation was laid out in Randomized Block Design with three replications consisting of twenty-two treatments with four different organic manures viz., farmyard manure, vermicompost, poultry manure and neem cake as a source of nitrogen and recommended dose of manure and fertilizers based on plant age with or without biofertilizers (Azotobacter, PSB & KMB) and biopesticides (Trichoderma viride and Paecilomyces lilacinus). The results based on pooled data revealed that a maximum number of hermaphrodite flowers (85.17) and incomplete flowers (96.50) up to two months after treatment application, fruit set (69.4...

But still it is far behind the average yield of Punjab (12.16 t/ ha), West Bengal (11.94 t/ ha) and Maharashtra (11.43 t/ ha) (Anon, 2015). This yield gap might be due to several reasons viz. availability of improved cultivars, soil type, nutrition management, irrigation availability, plant protection measures etc. but among them nutrition plays an important role. The area of North Gujarat is characterized by semi arid and soil type is loamy sand. NPK requirement is different via state wise like Arunachal Pradesh-125:60:100, Assam-50:60:100, Goa10:70:100, Haryana-80:50:25. However, if the pollination is unsuccessful, its fruits develop into parthenocarpic fruits which do not possess economic value. To reduce the effort, it is necessary to ascertain the duration of pistillate receptivity of the date palm for which an experiment was conducted at Date palm Research Station, Mundra, Kachchh, India, to understand the pistillate receptivity in date palm cv. Barhee. The experiment was conducted for 4 years (2014–2017), where pollination was done every day from 1 day to 10 days after anthesis (spathe opening) in randomly selected bunches which was replicated three times in randomized block design. The proportion of pollinated fruits among all the fruit present (including unpollinated parthenocarpic fruit) was observed and recorded along with their respective bunch weight. Higher proportion of pollinated fruits were observed when the female inflorescence pollinated in the first 4 days and higher bunch weight was observed in the first 2 days of pollination after spathe opening.

Nine levels of organic nutrients were tested in the randomized block design with three replications. Treatments were evaluated on the basis of growth and flowering characteristics of muskmelon. Application of organic nutrients significantly affected growth and flowering parameters. Maximum vine length at 30 and 60 DAS, number of branches per plant, leaf area at 45 DAS, days taken to flower initiation, number of male and female flowers per plant, sex ratio and per cent fruit set were recorded with treatment 50 per cent N from FYM + 50 per cent N from poultry manure + biofertilizer [Azospirillium + phosphorus solubilizing bacteria (PSB) + KSM] + Trichoderma viride + neem oil.

The results revealed that, the significantly highest vine length at 60 (86, 84 and 85 cm) and 90 DAS (117, 120 and 119 cm) was recorded with T15 (Recommended dose of N as Vermicompost + P and K + PSB) during the year 2012, 2013 and in pooled analysis, respectively. The significantly early flowering (58.6, 59.3 and 59.0 days), maximum number of pods per plant (7.4, 7.7 and 7.5) and highest weight of pod (7.3, 7.0 and 7.1 g), maximum yield of pods per plot (5.3, 5.1 and 5.2 kg) and yield of pods per hectare (137.9 q, 134.9 q and 136.4 q) was recorded with T18 (Recommended dose of N as Poultry Manure + P and K + PSB) durin...

D. Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar during Kharif 2008, 2009 and 2010 consecutively at the same plot to find out effect of organic manures in combination with essential nutrients on yield of turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) cv. KESAR. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design comprising of sixteen treatment combinations replicated thrice. Treatments were selected to evaluate the recommended dose of 90 kg/ha N through organic sources like FYM, vermicompost and poultry manure while 60 kg/ha P and K 30 kg/ha Zn and Fe through inorganic source. It was observed that application of RD of nitrogen through poultry manure in combination with RD of essential nutrients like phosphorus, potassium, zinc sulphate and ferrous sulphate significantly improved the yield of turmeric.
