Rwanda has made significant improvement in gender mainstreaming across the country but still after almost two decades, some key constraints still hindering the mainstreaming process that asks for serious attention and commitment of the government for the future including limited capacities and technical skills in gender analysis and planning for effective gender mainstreaming in all development sectors including the public sector, private sector and the civil society. The specific objectives of the study were to examine indicators of gender mainstreaming practices in Nyakariro Sector, to assess the level of socio-economic development of Nyakariro Sector-Rwamagana District and find out the relationship between gender mainstreaming and socio-economic development of Nyakariro Sector. The population of this study was 22 employees of Nyakariro sector. The researcher appointed 22 respondents as applied census technique since the population of the study is less than 100. With this technique the researcher selected all individuals that deemed to have the required information. Indicators of gender mainstreaming practices in Nyakariro Sector; 100% confirmed achieving balanced participation of women and men in political and public decision-making; 95.4% confirmed improvement of the quality of farming and livestock; 81.8% confirmed family planning. The development level of Nyakariro Sector-Rwamagana District; researcher revealed that 68.2% of respondents are great extended that Productive and market oriented Agriculture in Nyakariro Sector. Since the Pearson Correlation value is .847 and it is significant, the researcher can say that the there is a strong and positive relationship between the dependent and independent variables. Referring to the findings presented and in view of the challenges analysed in this research, in order to overcome the anomalies identified, some issues need to be tackled by the concerned authorities. It is recommended that policy makers should develop guidelines, rules, law as well as regulations, which does not tolerate sexual exploitation and abuse or harassment and abuse of authority. Increasing trainings and workshop for rural women in entrepreneurship, communication skills, leadership, management skills in order to prevent them from dependency; Strengthening gender-responsive strategies in crisis (conflict and disaster) prevention, preparedness and recovery especially women, children and other disabled people.
