Cavity Ringdown Calibration of Laser-Induced Incandescence

Abstract

Laser-induced incandescence (LII), a technique which determines relative soot volume fraction, requires calibration to yield quantitative results. Spatially resolved LII signals from soot within a methane/air diffusion flame are calibrated using cavity ring-down (CRD) which avoids extrapolation required of less sensitive methods in current use. Using CRD, quantification of LII for ppb fv levels is demonstrated.
