Gleb Tsipursky
Gleb Tsipursky (Russian: Глеб Ципурский, born February 10, 1981) is an American science popularizer and scholar. He is notable for his work popularizing science-based strategies to help people refine and reach their goals through improving their thinking, feeling and behavior patterns.
Background and Education
Born in the former Soviet Union, Gleb Tsipursky immigrated with his family when he was 10 to the United States. He grew up in New York City, where he attended New York University, and got a Bachelor of Arts in history in 2002. He received a Master of Arts degree from Harvard University in 2004, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in history from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 2011.
Academic Work
Gleb Tsipursky currently works as a tenure-track professor at The Ohio State University, teaching primarily on its Newark Campus. He is one the faculty of the History Department and a member of the Decision Sciences Collaborative. As a historian of science, he works at the intersection of history, psychology, and cognitive neuroscience. His research focuses on truth-seeking, rational thinking, and wise decision-making. He published dozens of peer-reviewed essays in academic venues in the US, UK, France, Germany, Russia, and elsewhere. His first monograph, entitled Socialist Fun: Youth, Consumption, and State-Sponsored Popular Culture Soviet Union, 1945-1970, is published with the University of Pittsburgh Press in 2016. His second monograph, Pro-Truth: Fighting Fake News and Post-Truth Politics With Behavioral Science, is under review at the University of Oxford Press.
