However, few studies have explored the factors that influence students’ academic self-efficacy in a blended learning environment. By developing a comprehensive model, this study investigates the main factors that influence students’ academic self-efficacy in blended learning from the personal, interpersonal, and environmental perspectives. The relevant information was acquired through a questionnaire survey. The participants included 366 college students at a university in central China. Hierarchical regression analysis shows that intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, instructor support, performance expectancy, and facilitating conditions are significant predictors of students’ academic self-efficacy in blended learning. The study combined information literacy with Uses and Gratifications Theory, characterized students’ online learning preferences with usage, gratifications, and acceptance, and introduced online interaction to construct an influencing factor model for university students’ preferences towards online learning. The partial least squares method was used to verify the measurement model and structural model. All the research hypotheses are supported by the empirical research.

Previous literature has examined individuals’ digital citizenship with some determinants of technology use. However, individuals’ level of social media competence (SMC) has not yet been examined in relation to digital citizenship. To increase knowledge of the ingredients that may be important for education programs to improve individuals’ digital citizenship, this study examined SMC and digital citizenship among 772 college students. The results identified that five of the six social media competencies examined were predictors of individuals’ digital citizenship. These findings provided empirical evidence of a relationship between SMC and digital citizenship, which should be considered by researchers and practitioners when formalizing educational programs, developing curricula, and designing pedagogy for improving individuals’ digital citizenship.

Research positively associates CCC to the benefits of student integration, learning, and retention in face-to-face environments. However, few studies have examined CCC in computer-mediated environments. This study provides empirical evidence of the relationships between key technological factors and CCC in cloud classrooms. A survey was administered to 641 college students, and the results indicate that four of the five technological factors examined were positively associated with CCC: advanced computer self-efficacy, program/software computer experience, Internet/entertainment computer experience, and computer importance. Basic computer self-efficacy was not related to CCC. These findings identify mechanisms that can improve CCC in cloud classrooms. The 40-item instrument measures students' preferences toward the smart classroom learning environment from eight constructs that are characteristic for this environment, including: Student Negotiation, Inquiry Learning, Reflective Thinking, Ease of Use, Perceived Usefulness, Multiple Sources, Connectedness, and Functional Design. Data was purposely collected from a group of 462 college students enrolled in at least one smart classroom course during the time of this study. The results showed no difference in preferences between genders and concluded that the instrument was a valid and reliable tool for measuring college students’ preferences toward a smart classroom learning environment.

This study provides the rationale for developing an instrument to conduct such an assessment, and the research illustrates evidence of validity and reliability in assessing social media competence in the field of higher education. The instrument includes 28 items and 4 dimensions: technical usability, content interpretation, content generation, and anticipatory reflection. Data were collected from a sample of 622 college students. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted, and this study finds that the instrument shows no signs of deficiency in its validity or reliability when measuring social media competence. Accordingly, the instrument could be used to evaluate and improve levels of social media competence in higher education.

The construction of class social networking sites, the implementation of these networks, and their effects on the students’ learning experience are examined. In addition, an analysis of feedback from students on the value of social networking in learning is included.

It then discussed the potential uses of Weblog-based portfolio for e-learning courses in supporting interactions among students and instructors, and presented a case study on how a blogfolio approach was implemented into three hybrid courses and one fully online course at two universities in the United States. The effectiveness of the blogfolio approach on interactions in both fully online and hybrid courses has been assessed and confirmed in this study.

To help optimize online learning platforms for in-service teachers’ professional development, thi... more To help optimize online learning platforms for in-service teachers’ professional development, this study aims to develop an instrument to assess the quality of this type of platforms on teacher satisfaction. After reliability and validity tests and expert empowerment, the 27-item instrument was formed. Based on the information systems (IS) success model, this instrument was designed to measure teacher perceptions of the quality of online learning platforms from three dimensions, namely, content quality, technical quality, and service quality. Moreover, the developed instrument was used to analyze the effects of the National Teacher Training Platform amid the COVID-19 outbreak in China. The findings revealed that the improvement of the platform’s style, tool function, operating efficiency, and teaching methods could enhance teachers’ experience of online training.

Forty-two students were randomly assigned into one of three groups, which consisted of collaborative note-taking, laptop note-taking, and traditional longhand note-taking. The results showed that students in the collaborative note-taking group did better on learning achievement and cognitive load than students in the other two groups. Particularly, students in the collaborative note-taking group had a significantly higher rate of learning achievement and a significantly lower level of extraneous load than students in the longhand note-taking group. Implications for practice or policy: College students can improve their learning achievement more effectively through collaborative note-taking style than individual note-taking style. Firstly, student model was designed to describe the relevant variables of knowledge, skills and abilities to be measured in terms of students' information literacy. Secondly, evidence model was presented, including the evidence rules and measurement model of students' information literacy. Thirdly, task model was proposed to describe various kinds of tasks in order to obtain the evidence needed by the evidence model. Then, the implementation of students' information literacy assessment based on the ECD model was introduced. Finally, the authors proposed future studies regarding with empirical research on students' information literacy assessment based on the ECD model.
