The unit cell shows Double NeGative (DNG) characteristics in S-Band and Epsilon NeGative (ENG) in C-Band frequency. The characteristics of the proposed unit cell are studied with the popular FR-4 substrate and also with the Rogers RT6010 substrate that exhibits a higher dielectric constant. A comparison of the unit cell characteristics in 1×2, 2×2 and 3×3 array structures is made, to validate the performance of the split ring resonators (SRR) as a metamaterial. The reflection and transmission parameters of the unit cell are obtained using commercially available package CST software; then the EM properties are extracted using the smiths’ method. The proposed unit named bowtie cell can find potential use in satellite communication systems.

The proposed antenna comprises a circular-shaped slot in the centre of the radiating surface. The antenna is fabricated onto an inexpensive FR4 substrate with an overall dimension of only 18 × 23 mm2. The suggested antenna is analyzed using full-wave electromagnetic solvers, CST Microwave Studio (MWS) and Ansoft HFSS, to validate the obtained simulated results. Moreover, a comprehensive parametric study has been applied to understand the effect of some parameters on the antenna’s performance. The obtained results show that the proposed antenna achieves good impedance matching, constant gain and stable radiation patterns over the operating bandwidth of 3.1–10.6 GHz (109%) that covers the entire UWB. The stable radiation pattern with a maximum gain of 3.58 dBi and a directivity of 80%, making the proposed antenna very suitable for using in UWB applications.

Two important operators are required for the method operation, which determine a relation between space and spectral domains. The iterative approach performances have been used to analyze the fractal patch antenna. The Wave Concept Iterative Process (WCIP) obtained results are demonstrated by measurement, note that insightful results have been recorded.

The accuracy and efficiency of the Wave Concept Iterative Procedure (WCIP) have been used for numeric analysis. High computational speed and used memory savings are obtained using the FFT algorithm. A comparison between different simulated results has been performed. In conducting the WCIP simulations, it was used a computational program implemented in FORTRAN language, full agreement with simulation data justify the design procedure.
