The authors anticipate that guilt cultures allow for the development of a rules-based culture that allows for the development of impersonal exchange, whereas shame cultures, which are relationship-oriented, focus on strong ties and hence lack the means to expand firms from small and medium family/clan-based businesses.FindingsEmpirical results are completed to see whether guilt-dominating cultures are more conducive to having larger firms and whether guilt-dominating cultures have less informality. The authors find support for the latter but lack the right data to test the former.Originality/valueThe authors use a new measure of culture to see how it impacts entrepreneurship.

study aims to advance the theory in global virtual teams (GVTs) by exploring how emotions evolve over
time and impact team performance. This study evaluates GVTs working on a business through large data
sets capturing interactions and performance steps. We investigate the impact of affective events on the
performance of GVTs. The data was collected, and the initial draft of the study was performed before the
COVID-19 pandemic ensued. The findings demonstrate that the level of emotions varies over time
according to work-related stimuli, such as workload and deadlines, while the high level of emotion
displayed—both positive and negative—also influences GVTs and is correlated with teams’ performance.

In the process, the existing leadership theories are being challenged and revised to accommodate the new technology-based workplace. Thus, the use of new technologies, or wider adaptation of the existing technologies, demonstrates the crossing of the chasm in trust within teams as well as the trust between managers and employees. In this chapter, we explore how technology offers new opportunities which may, at the same time, curtail advancement opportunities for those in lower ranks or early careers.

The crux of Bogenschneider’s argument is a discussion of 11 deceptions in tax policy ranging from (#1) the idea that tax cuts for the wealthy will cause economic growth, to (#7) the idea that workers don’t pay taxes because the income tax rates are progressive, to (#11) the idea that tax cuts for large corporations will cause a decrease in the prices of consumer goods. Notably, the other 8 deceptions not listed are of such significance and worthy of discussion on their own merits and to not mention of them here feels like leaving a suitcase or child behind on the platform in the train station. This intense feeling of the significance and novelty of Bogenschneider’s argumentation, and the ease with which it is presented, is an argument to read the book. Perhaps an important further point of introduction is that in the title Bogenschneider refers to the tricking of America, ...

This paper will test the importance of the relationship between geographic distribution and clustering of foreign firms and the influence of human capital and skill present in the regions, generally represented by major cities, on the location choice strategy and innovation activity of foreign investors across regions in the host economy of a developing nation. Testing the data on the location of foreign firms and skilled workforce (among other factors) in the regions across Poland, this study finds that a higher level of presence of skilled workforce in the regions tends to attract higher value-added and service-related foreign subsidiaries into them hence, furthering the development of the host cities and regions. Also, the industries with higher amounts of foreign investment tend to narrow their industrial specialization, in some regions including also smaller regions such as Podkarpackie, while Mazowieckie (the leading region) continues to attract higher value-added and service FDI despite the highest labor cost.

The model offers a two-fold approach. First, for learners to develop skills by: applying the model to learn new skills to address a set problem; improving their ability to seek and receive feedback; reflecting on the feedback and learning; and offering a new proposal. Second, the intention is for faculty to adopt the learning model to design assignments that deliberately assess applied elements of learning, such as adaptive and critical thinking skills.

For the purpose of testing these hypotheses, H4a and H4b, a cross-sectional result for the years 2000 and 2006 is used in order to reflect the relationship between different types of firms in Poland during this period.

In the paper the analysis presented of rolling-stock designs for the organization of road-train and wheel equipment transportation, legislation requirements, a standard legislation for designing rolling-stock, requirements of transport operators and a logistic infrastructure existing in the country allowed formulating criteria for the choice of an efficient design scheme of a platform-car. In accordance with the criteria accepted there are offered three versions for the design of cars. In the first two versions of platform-cars there is foreseen a lower stationary platform on a based length. The difference of the second version consists in the application of a bearing element in a truss structure as a basic one. For both designs there are obtained utility patents. The third version provides for the presence of a load lift...

The book analyzes and identifies the location patterns of FDI across different regions in Poland and strives to determine the supporting motives behind location choices of foreign companies. The study also identifies the leading foreign firms present in Poland and examines whether their presence has an effect on the location choices of smaller foreign firms from the same industry.A revealed location advantage (RLA) model is used to determine relative industrial concentration of foreign firms across Polish regions. Furthermore, statistical analysis between RLA index is used to measure the degree of industrial specialization (across industries) in each region. In addition, relevant local economic factors such as: market size, labor pool and skill, amount of FDI, regional GDP, and the investment in R and D, are used to determine the relationships that support the attraction of foreign firms to particular regions.
