Suspects Charged In Armed Robbery Of Pharmacy Delivery Van

Hoover Police detectives obtained warrants against the three men involved in Monday's armed robbery of a pharmacy delivery driver.

HOOVER, AL — Three men face multiple charges after Monday's robbery of a pharmacy delivery van in Hoover. The incident occurred just after 10 a.m. on Mountain Drive near Shades Mountain Plaza.

Abdul Malik Hasan, 61, has been charged with robbery, certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, receiving stolen property, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and attempting to elude.

Alphonso Smiley, 50, is charged with robbery and attempting to elude, and 50-year-old Anthony Dewain Word is charged with robbery.

Hoover police said they responded to Mountain Drive near Shades Mountain Plaza on a report of an armed robbery involving three suspects. Responding officers received a description of the suspect vehicle and located it traveling on Tyler Road near Southland Drive.

"The vehicle continued onto Hackberry Lane where officers attempted to stop it," Capt. Keith Czeskleba of the Hoover Police Department said. "A pursuit ensued after the driver refused to stop. The vehicle crashed into a power pole at the intersection of Hackberry Lane and Blue Ridge Boulevard."

Czeskleba said one of the occupants attempted to flee the crash site but was captured after a brief foot pursuit.
