WILKINS, TOWNSHIP, PA — The body of a Wilkins teen who went missing more than a year ago was located on the shoreline of the Ohio River in Wellsville, Ohio.

The body was that of Jayshawn Fountain, who was 17 when vanished in February 2023.

The Wellsville Police Department on Friday issued a release stating authorities were notified of a body on shoreline in the 1600 block of Riverside Avenue on April 5, 2023.

The remains were transported to the Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office, which estimated the deceased person's age at between 30 and 40. DNA and fingerprints were submitted into databases but proved unsuccessful in identifying the body, as did Wellsville police checking local and surrounding states' missing person's reports.

Fountain's body was positively identified in June. The release did not indicate how the identity confirmation was made, how Fountain had died or why news of the identification was not made public until July.
