18 RI High Schools Make U.S. News 2024 'Best' Ranking
Four Rhode Island schools are in the top 5 percent nationally, and 18 are in the top 25 percent.
RHODE ISLAND — A total of 18 public high schools in Rhode Island are among the best in the country, according to a new ranking Tuesday from U.S. News & World Report.
In the 2024 Best High Schools list, Rhode Island ranks 11th among U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Among the 58 ranked schools in the state, four are in the top 5 percent nationally, and 18 are in the top 25 percent.
The top 25 public high schools in Rhode Island are:

1. Classical High School, 770 Westminster Street, Providence, ranked #202 nationally
2. Barrington High School, 220 Lincoln Avenue, Barrington, ranked #217 nationally

3. East Greenwich High School, 300 Avenger Drive, East Greenwich, ranked #548 nationally
4. Portsmouth High School, 120 Education Lane, Portsmouth, ranked #785 nationally
5. North Kingstown Sr. High School, 150 Fairway Drive, North Kingstown, ranked #1,200 nationally
6. South Kingstown High School, 215 Columbia Street, Wakefield, ranked #1,422 nationally
7. Blackstone Valley Prep High School, 65 Macondray Street, Cumberland, ranked #2,204 nationally
8. Narragansett High School, 245 South Pier Road, Narragansett, ranked #2,231 nationally
9. Lincoln Senior High School, 135 Old River Road, Lincoln, ranked #2,353 nationally
10. Chariho High School, 453 Switch Road, Wood River Junction, ranked #2,355 nationally
State-by-state performance is based solely on which states have the largest proportion of schools in the top 25 percent. Massachusetts once again leads in the ranking, followed by Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland and Florida, respectively.
The top high schools have students who score exceptionally high on math, reading and science assessments, as well strong performance among under-served students. High school graduation rates and college readiness among graduates are also measured.
U.S. News also ranked magnet, charter and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) schools. Among standout schools in Rhode Island are:
