Give Back To Your Community As An Assistance League Member

Join Us In Helping Children and Families

Are you looking for a way to give back to your community? Join Assistance League of Northern Virginia and help children in need and their families. The nonprofit has been serving students for more than 20 years as a chapter of the National Assistance League, which has been helping the underserved for more than a century.

Assistance League seeks committed volunteers to support its various philanthropic programs. Volunteer opportunities include participating in a literacy program by providing weekly help to students at several elementary schools so they can improve their reading comprehension skills. Volunteers form bonds with their first- through third-grade students, who are wonderfully receptive and relish having individual attention for their reading practice. Plus, the kids are so cute! Tutoring, like nearly all of the charity’s programs, occurs on weekdays during normal school hours.

Members also help with other ‘hands-on’ philanthropic programs that provide weekend food bags, new clothing, sneakers, books, toiletries, and comfort pillows to elementary school students. Assistance League also needs help with the many behind-the-scenes tasks that are essential to its success: publicity, marketing, tech support, and graphic design, to name just a few.
