Biography

Eli Saber is a Professor in the Electrical and Microelectronic Engineering Department and the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Prior to that, he worked for Xerox Corporation from 1988 until 2004 in a variety of positions ending as Product Development Scientist and Manager at the Business Group Operations Platform Unit. During his 16 years at Xerox, he was responsible for delivering color management, image processing innovations/architectures/algorithms and xerographic sub-systems for a variety of color products including iGen3. He received the BS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Buffalo in 1988, and the MS and PhD degrees in the same discipline from the University of Rochester in 1992 and 1996 respectively. From 1997 until 2004, he was an adjunct faculty member at the Electrical Engineering Department of the Rochester Institute of Technology and at the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department of the University of Rochester responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate coursework in signal, image, video processing, pattern recognition & communications and performing research in Multimedia Applications, Pattern Recognition, Image Understanding and Color Engineering.

He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and a member of the IEEE Signal Processing & Communications Society, the Electrical Engineering Honor Society, Eta Kappa Nu, and the Imaging Science and Technology Society. He is currently an area editor for the Journal of Electronic Imaging. He served as an associate editor for the IEEE Transaction on Image Processing, the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine Applications Column, and guest editor for the special issue on Color Image Processing for the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine. He is a member of the IEEE Image, Video and Multidimensional Signal processing technical committee and of the Technical Committee on Industry DSP Technology. He was appointed the finance chair for the 2002 International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), tutorial chair for ICIP 2007 & ICIP 2009, and General Chair for ICIP 2012. He has also founded (along with Dr Robert Loce) the Video Surveillance and Transportation Imaging Conference within the Electronic Imaging Symposium. He was also the general chair for the Western New York Imaging Workshop in 1998. He has served as the Chairman, vice-chairman, treasurer, and secretary of the IEEE Rochester Chapter of the signal processing society in 1998, 1997, 1996 and 1995 respectively. He has served as a Technical program committee member for ICIP 2003, ICIP 2002, ICIP 2001, ICIP 2002, and prior ICIPs. as well as ICASSP 2003, ICASSP 2002, and prior ICASSPs. He holds numerous publications and patents in the field of color image processing, signal, image and video processing, and computer vision.
