This article focuses on how feminism is commodified within Britney Spears’s music videos for “Str... more This article focuses on how feminism is commodified within Britney Spears’s music videos for “Stronger”, “Toxic”, and “Womanizer”. Since the 1980s, music videos have become part of modern advertising for music artists. Due to the amount of viewership of music videos, it becomes apparent to analyze how musical artist rhetorically construct gender. Over the decades, Spears has transitioned from teen pop princess to post-feminist archetypical queen. Through analyzing Spears’s selected music videos, I provide analysis on how feminism has been blended with semiotic representations of femininity over the past decades in order to persuade women viewers of advertisements to buy into a lifestyle.

Greenpeace International, a non-governmental organization, has focused a specific civil-society campaign aimed at protecting the future of the Earth through international environmental policy reform. These advertisements and viral Internet videos contain shocking future images of apocalyptic doom, inspiring emotions, and humorous political spoofs. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the persuasive goals of this campaign by applying the three artistic proofs, enthymemes, Cause-and-Effect Reasoning, and Weaver’s God/Devil/Charismatic Terms, in order to provide examples of how Greenpeace’s main tactic to target the human instinct towards survival.
