Looks absolutely fantastic! The lighting and the use of colours really bring a mellow feel to the piece, great job!

You're one of the absolute masters of pixel art landscapes, no doubt.  Lovely work on this.

Great depth! It captures the depth of a breaktaking vista superbly. For a static background, it celebrates a dynamic quality.

Few crits:

The low saturation gives the scene a serene feel. I think you could improve the visual interest by boosting the saturation of one of the upper-mid value shades. You could also push the shadows on the clouds to be colder.

You did well to move the horizon and vanishing point so they aren't in the center of the piece. However, the composition is still very symmetrical. Each side features several rocks, a near bush, and a near tree.

It would be nice to see the fir needles on one tree at a different angle. Currently, they look a bit like mirrored twins.

 Amazing

Yeah the pines were definitely not my strong suit, but it's defintely taught me what not to do next time.

Compared to your other landscapes, you've come so far.  I also think that the original, more saturated colors made the piece so much more intense.  My minor nitpick is that the two larger trees look too same-ish.  Since the composition is, overall, realistic in style, the repetition of textures in the tree's firs takes away from the illusion.  That being said, the colors and contrast of the foreground from the background really adds a sense of depth in this landscape.

the pine trees look a bit too solid

but everything else is amazing

HolySchwabbel (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 10/25/2013 03:58

this is breathtaking, the colors are perfectly chosen and the lighting is great :) !

btw i love the mountains in the background.

 second variation wins =p

user
ErekT (Level 3 Hatchikyu) @ 10/25/2013 02:32

The pine branches are aligned in pretty strict 0, 90, 180, 270 degree directions, which make the pines look artificial. Everything else is great. Dig the colors and the trees with leaves extra much.

skeddles (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 10/24/2013 14:02

You nailed the tree with the flat leaves, and the mountains and clouds are beautiful. The pine trees are too soft, they look like clay or something. I think you tried to hard to render each little leaf, or maybe you tried to use too many colors in each little area. the grass has an even worse problem, it looks very pixelated and unrendered, and it sticks  out a lot. I can't really think of how to fix it, but like the trees I think trying to render each piece by itself is where it went wrong.

Overall I love the piece though

damn

user
Phill (Level 7 Cuttlefish) @ 10/24/2013 03:54

This is so much awesome, the atmosphere is incredible! But in some way I have to agree with Connor: those yellow and orange would work so damn well!!

user
Iceberg (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 10/24/2013 03:12

I came.

user
_Connor (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 10/24/2013 02:43

 Perfection...

edit: damn now that i've watched the .gif i have to say those original colours looked amazing. That strong orange/yellow especially in the reflection worked really well.

@Adam: I think some details in the water continuing under the cliff would help to show that the foreground is a higher elevation, maybe some fallen tree/slogs. Also maybe remove a LITTLE bit of the detail in the water, and add a bit more grit to the sand/rocks on the cliff.  Anyway, just spit-balling ideas, i really have no idea if any of em would help or not =p

user
Adam (Level 9 Human) @ 10/24/2013 02:35

A wonderful landscape.

Just to nitpick: I suppose the view is set on a cliff overlooking the lake underneath, but it's hard to notice. The lake seems like a continuation of the clearing in the forground. Don't really know how to solve it, maybe swapping the two pines so that they impy a different perspective than the background? Nah maybe not - that would mess up the lighting.

user
Mandrill (Level 9 T-rex) @ 10/24/2013 02:26

I bet you worked your ass off for this. Absolutely worth it! :)

Brilliant landscape.

Great, great, great! Very interesting technic , in spite of the unreal scale of woods. The atmosphere and depth of this picture are gorgeous.

I dont know why but this palette seems familiar. Superb work though! Really superb!
