Ph.D in design, now Xue is a research fellow at Creative Industries Lab at Politecnico di Milano. With a background in product design and service system design, Xue is specialized in applying her design and research skills to strategically creating competitive service offerings and fostering a design culture in organisations. During her doctor research, she explored how design thinking and design methods could enable organisations in the third sector (NPOs, NGOs and social enterprises) to form their design capabilities for innovation: exploring alternative innovation approaches through engaging employees at different levels and external stakeholders.Xue has been working on a variety of international research projects in which design-led research practices has played an important role on guiding the processes and generating research findings. This approach has been applied in the following topics: service and business innovation, social impact and organisational innovation, age friendly city for elderly, digital transformation for kids and toys and so on. She has also participated in several consultant projects with clients from both business and non-profit sectors. Besides, she is conducting didactic activities on service design and business design at postgraduate level. Xue has also published several articles at international journals and conference proceedings.

The project is conducted by a multidisciplinary research approach to study how to support social inclusion of elderlies’ living in urban environments by enhancing their active walking. The whole process will engage participants (senior citizens) and stakeholders in a human-centred design approach. In this paper we will present the results from the preliminary research activities carried out: case studies and territorial observations. The first activity was oriented to investigate and select innovative solutions to enhance the mobility of elderly pedestrians and to improve their (social) lives. The second one helped us in better framing the design context of action and assessing at, a microscopic level, the degree of walkability of specific territor...
