The first part of the essay outlines the reasons why businesses and charities collaborate by examining case studies and academic research. It also examines the different forms of collaborations in which businesses and charities participate, referencing specific cases to outline the objectives and aims of such partnerships. The second part of the essay evaluates the advantages of different partnerships, examining which stakeholders benefit the most from certain collaborations, the reasons why they benefit and whether businesses benefit from certain partnerships more than charities due to their requirements. Referencing specific case studies, as well as academic commentary, the essay presents an evaluation of the benefits that arise from different business/charity partnerships.

The report specifically examines these issues in relation to brand image, which has become a critical component to business identity. Keller (1998) defines brand image as “brand associations held in consumer memory.” Scholars differentiate between the symbolic and functional aspects of brand image, the former referring to the notional characteristics of a brand, while the latter referring to its utilitarian associations, such as quality and efficiency (Bhat and Reddy, 1998). After analyzing the means by which companies engage with CSR, the report proposes three simple recommendations for corporations looking to formulate a CSR policy.
