A friendship springs up between Fred and Bob. Fred takes Bob home and introduces him to his wife and child. Tom Brundage takes advantage of Fred's absence from home and tries to ingratiate himself into Mrs. Harst's affections; she repulses him. To get even, Brundange steals a horse from a ranch owner and turns it into Fred Harst's corral, where it is found. Fred is arrested and condemned to be hanged. Just as the noose is about to he fastened about his neck, he asks permission to visit his wife and child. The sheriff consents when Bob volunteers to stand sponsor for Fred, to be hanged in his stead if he does not return. Fred hastens to his home, spends a few hours with his family, and bids them farewell. He makes haste to his execution. His horse goes lame and he is obliged to make his way on foot, which he accomplishes with great difficulty. Becoming conscience-stricken, Tom Brundage gets away from the scene and sends to the sheriff a confession of his guilt. The sheriff releases Fred at once, grasping his hand, while the boys give three rousing cheers for the wronged man, whom they are only too willing to release.
