She even goes so far as to get a job, but is discovered by her father, taken home and later sent to her uncle in a small country town. Arriving at the town all the boys are impressed with her and particularly Freckles, who carries the grip. Vera determines to have a good time while in captivity and sets out to flirt with everyone wearing pants. Rev. Goode is among those seeking to ingratiate himself with her. Freckles proposes and she accepts, laughing, and takes his ring. Freckles secures his license immediately. Another rube proposes and is accepted. He also leaves a ring. Freckles hidden by the porch overhears this and is enraged. Others propose and are accepted to the amazement of the hiding boy. He confronts the girl and drags her off. On the road to the village he meets and trounces her other admirers and forces the minister to marry him. Triumphantly he leads his bride away, who has become quite meek.
