She makes a friend and confidante of her mother's maid Marcelle. Marcelle tells Vivienne how her Uncle Bonfil is out-of-work and his wife is sick in bed. Knowing that she cannot expect her mother to interest herself in servants' affairs, Vivienne helps herself to a large sum of money in Mrs. Charleroi's desk and slips it under the door of Bonfil's house. The loss is discovered, and detectives are employed. They become suspicious of Marcelle and follow her to her uncle's house, where both are arrested. The money is found on Bonfil. When Vivienne hears that her beloved Marcelle is in danger of being sent to prison, she throws herself on her father's mercy and confesses to the theft. To her great surprise, her father is very gentle with her and forgives her, telling her that in the future she shall be his pet and comrade. Mrs. Charleroi also appreciates what has happened through her neglect of her child, and the family are drawn together in a new bond of love. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
