Hanlon covets Marion. She is fascinated by him. Hanlon deliberately ruins Steele in the exchange and runs off with his wife to Europe. Steele pretends suicide and goes to Alaska under an assumed name. There he strikes it rich and returns to New York, resolved to avenge himself on Hanlon. He is wearing a heavy beard and his former rival fails to recognize him. In a fierce battle on the floor of the exchange Steele sends Hanlon to the wall. Hanlon goes home to his apartments a crushed and broken man. There, later Steele, shorn of his disguise, confronts his old enemy. They fight like wild beasts. A lamp is upset and the house catches fire. Steele escapes, but Hanlon perishes in the flames. Written by
