By shooting one of the young men in the leg, he succeeds in capturing him, and takes him to his house. Here the young fellow is looked after kindly enough, and he falls in love with the gamekeeper's daughter. One evening his father and brother enter the gamekeeper's cottage and rescue the prisoner, who, however, realizes that if he is to win the object of his affections, he must give up his old pursuits. He goes to the game-keeper and tells him of his intentions, and the older man finds him work. One day the young lover observes his father and brother shooting a deer. To save them from imprisonment, he hides the quarry, but is discovered by the gamekeeper. Desirous of saving his father, the young man says he shot the deer, but the old man will not accept his son's well-intentioned explanation, and admits that he is the culprit. On his also resolving to give up poaching, the gamekeeper forgives the father and approves of the son's addresses to his daughter. Written by
