Count de Romagna also hates the Emperor, and she offers to aid him in his schemes of revenge upon Napoleon III. By his influence she attends a court ball, attracts the Emperor's attention and also that of Favier, the son of the minister responsible for her father's death. She falls in love with the latter, and refuses to go on with the scheme. She is finally killed by a bullet from Favier, who in the dark is firing at the man who is with her. It was the Emperor himself, and but for La Savelli turning around, the bullet would have entered his body. The piece is a careful study and scrupulous regard to detail has been involved. Written by
